Bahir Dar

Bahir Dar is a city on the highlands in north western Ethiopia. It is the capital of the Amhara Region.

It is situated on the southern shore of Lake Tana, the source of the Blue Nile. The city is located approximately 578km north-west of Addis Ababa, having an elevation of 1840 meters above sea level. It is a blooming city and considered one of the most beautiful , well planned cities in Ethiopia with wide avenues lined with palm trees.

Thus, it is a city facing with the challenges of rapid urbanization.

95% of the population in Bahir Dar speaks Amharic. 88% practiced Ethiopian Orthodox Christianity and 12 % of the population are Muslims.
